This is the Arnolfini Double Portrait by Jan van Eyck, signed in 1434. It was recently examined using x-ray and infra red light. Those examinations revealed the changes van Eyck made while he was painting. These changes are called pentimento, and are one of the ways paintings are proven to be original. Forger’s don’t usually change their minds. I love the fluttering hands, and shifting position of the eyes in this work.
